Regular Meditation for 15-20 minutes a day is the BEST thing you can do for immediately increasing your health, wellbeing, happiness and satisfaction with your life.
The purpose of meditation is to temporarily let you tune-out the voice of your ego that is giving you a virtually non-stop play-by-play of your day. That voice can be very limiting because it bases everything on past experience so its narrative just keeps you in the status quo. Since you would probably like to positively alter some of your current circumstances the only way to do that is open the door to some fresh thought and inspiration. This happens when you sleep but meditation is the most powerful tool to open the door to new realities. Opening that door for just a few moments can have a great effect. Each day the crack in your current reality will widen. The functioning of your brain and the neural pathways will become more efficient.
In a matter of days you can notice significant differences in your life. There are lots of ways to meditate and the only way you can do it wrong is to try hard. Just relax and give it a try.
If your ego has been programmed to think this is a cruel and unjust world that is what it will be for you. If your ego has been programmed to believe you can accomplish anything you set your mind on then that will be your reality. Like a standard electronic computer, your ego can only respond to the world based on its programming and that is how it defines reality. This of course is the reason why while our individual realties overlap with common beliefs, no two people live in the same reality. Their view of reality sets the parameters for how they perceive the world. With egos running the show we are locked in a closed loop of expectations and experiences all driven by our past. This makes it clear why there are so often conflicts because everyone believes whatever they believe is "right". Therefore what is "right" can be very different from one person to the next and they are still in fact both "right". Only access to your higher conscious self can give you the opportunity to reset the system and open up an awareness of new possibilities.

A mantra is a thought, but it is a thought without story. It is used in silent repetition to keep the mind focused. Mantra meditation allows you to access quieter levels of silence beyond thought. It takes you on an inward journey unlike thought, which takes you on an outward journey.
Meditation can be difficult at first, but once you understand there are only two things that you can do “wrong” in meditation, you’ll never doubt yourself again. (Here, “wrong” simply means prevent you from receiving the full benefits of meditation.) They are: Choose to follow thoughts down a path. Stop the meditation early. The key to meditation is to notice thoughts and make a conscious choice not to follow them. Simply return to a focus of repeating the mantra silently in your mind.
It is not that easy to snap your fingers and change your life story, although you are totally capable of doing it. The challenge is that since before you were born, your bio-computer brain has been programmed in survival mode. Like an electronic computer, that bio-computer brain of yours, in dealing with the world around you, has been basing everything solely on your experiences. It takes all the data accumulated by your five senses and attempts to guide your thinking and choices by predicting what is going to happen based entirely on what it has experienced up to the moment. Because you are a being of unlimited creative potential, that is an extremely limited perspective.
That "subconscious" self does not want you to accept that what we will call the "EGO - AKA the bio-computer basic operating system" part of you is only a very small part of who you are. This is where consciousness comes into play - making you so much more than a mere biological robot of sorts.
You have the capability to think for yourself and create an entirely new "reality" for your life anytime you want. The big obstacle will be that the bio-computer part of you will try to convince you that "it" is really YOU. That is because as a "basic operating system", you have given it nearly full control for many years. You have been going through life in a kind of waking dream that you have made up for yourself. That is all your basic operating system subconscious knows. Its primary function is controlling your body systems and trying to control your choices about everything by what it believes, based on past experience, is the safest path for you to travel. There are often conflicts for your ego basic operating system, because while survival is the prime directive, seeking happiness is the primary motivator for all of your actions and decisions. There is nothing you will pursue for long if you don't believe it is going to provide you with happiness and some personal satisfaction.
Clearly maximizing your security from the ego's perspective and having the most fun possible are going to often be at odds. Therein lays the source of all worry and anxiety. They are the result of believing you are never going to get all the things that make you happy and believing reality to be highly uncertain and risky. Besides continuously trying to keep you on the straight and narrow of the status quo, in its attempt to protect you from the unhappiness of disappointment, your bio-computer brain will encourage you to accept that there are many limitations in life, and that no one can get everything they want.
It is quite possible that you, reading this, will think, "Well that's just the way it is." The fact that things don't have to be that way is the message for you today. When it comes to reality, you are actually a virtually unlimited and powerful Designer of Reality. You are able to draw on the unlimited creative power of the Universe to shape your world in any way you desire. Even more important, as you transform your personal reality to conform more and more to your hopes and desires, you will have a positive impact on how others perceive their reality.
